Here is the final storyboard for my main titles.

These are the Saul Bass inspired letters I made for the credits that will be on my storyboard.

Then I made my first storyboard by drawing out my initial idea on paper.

Storyboard Brainstorm

I then made a brainstorm of all the information to go into my storyboard to remind myself of my ideas and to have a clear plan before I begin.

Sketches

These are some Saul Bass inspired sketches of items linked to the Shawshank Redemption to get me thinking about what I want to use in my storyboard. It has also helped me to think about what the objects will look like which is why I had done a few versions of each of the items.

 Here are my mood boards to help me with my storyboard as it reminds me of the clear themes and key objects so that I can interpret them in my own way while including a Saul Bass style.

Create Your Own Saul Bass Inspired Typeface

Next we had to create our own Saul Bass inspired typeface for the movie you chose.
I came up with this one that has thick and thin lines to it which I think makes it different and interesting to look at. I feel it is in a Saul Bass 'style' as it has a handmade appearance to it and is bold. I think I could make it more like Saul Bass by making the letters more random and bolder.

I then tested out what my movie title would look like in a Saul Bass inspired typeface. This has helped me to see what the title would look like in a Saul Bass style and given me some ideas for when I make my own handmade typeface.

Y Chart on Movie

Then we made a Y Chart on the movie we chose. I brainstormed what I would see, smell and hear if I was an extra in 'The Shawshank Redemption' which will help me when I come to design my storyboard in order to set the scene and create a mood that will introduce the audience to the film.

Then we did a brainstorm on the movie we chose. This has helped with deciding what to do for my storyboard as it reminds me of the themes, key objects and put some initial ideas in my mind.

Saul Bass Inspired Movie Posters

Then we were given the homework task to find lots of movie posters that have been inspired by Saul Bass' work. This has helped me with my own designs as it has shown me how other people have looked at Saul Bass's style and interpreted it into an existing film poster. It has shown me the clear style of Saul Bass in order to incorporate it into my storyboard. My favourite poster is probably the Rocky one as they have used the shadow of the man to make a straircase. I also like the use of the orange as it draws the eye and makes the black and white pop.

First I found 5 fonts that I felt were inspired by Saul Bass' style and put my name in it before putting a few random backgrounds behind it to see how they could look.

The Brief:

Unit 3 is to create a storyboard for the beginning titles to a film of our choice in the style of Saul Bass.
